May we get what we want, get what we need, and never get what we deserve.

Wonder Woman (2015)

8.1/10 on IMDb
92% on Rotten Tomatoes

Chloe's thoughts: It's alright;
Watch it in cinemas;
Low-energy entertainment

Watch it if you: Are a fan of Gal Gadot (and who isn't);
Want to see the DCEU finally have a decent movie;
Want to see a cool and entertaining movie with a strong female lead;
Want to see some pretty cool action sequences

After learning about the atrocities of World War I, Diana leaves her female-populated Amazonian land to follow an American pilot into the heart of the war, in an effort to save mankind.

I watched this quite late so there had already been quite a bit of hype about the film's strong female presence. All in all, I did enjoy the portrayal of a strong Wonder Woman, but the last act could have been a lot better.

The first two thirds of the movie was actually quite enjoyable and I thought it was going pretty darn well!

It was funny and entertaining, with Gal Gadot and Chris Pine both having great comedic timing.

They are also both super dreamy, and I, like the other 7 billion people on this planet, am completely in love with her now. She is beautiful, cute, sexy, and strong in this film and a fantastic role model for young children.

On top of that, the actual character of Wonder Woman here is compassionate, smart, and kind, but she's not without her faults. She's stubborn, naive, and assuming, but she learns to overcome this the more she is exposed to the human world.

There was a lot of buzz about the fight scenes in this film. Wonder Woman is part of the Amazonians, who in Greek mythology were all amazing female warriors, so their fight scenes should be pretty amazing. And while they were pretty cool to look at, I was not a big fan of the constant slow motion that kept happening over and over again throughout the movie. It felt very Zack Snyder-y, like in how 300 there was just constant slow-motion moments interspersed. Sometimes it looked cool, but at other times they were just slow-mo-ing the most random and uncool parts, so I don't even know what the point of it was.

But you know what felt REALLY Zack Snyder-y? The entire third act.

There is one very crucial stage in the movie where everything just goes completely downhill. From then on, the movie is just too insane, too crazy, too cheesy, and just too bizarre for me. The fact that they could have gone a better, more wholesome route, but ended up going with this cheesy ending, was quite disappointing.

But overall it was an enjoyable movie. The writing can get a bit cheesy, especially in the last act, but it was still funny and entertaining. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine have amazing chemistry together and are both very easy on the eyes. If DC continues with this quality of movies then I will finally start believing in them again.
