C is for Competition

mini lifelong goal:
get a blowtorch (for cooking with)
(i mentioned it before, it was a birthday present)

lifelong goal:
win a competition/draw/raffle

ACCOMPLISHED!!

yehp thats right.

okay so when my bro was doing marketing, there was this competition to design a cover for the next Principles or Marketing cover and my brother's concept was technology, more specifically touchscreens such as the itouch or ipad, so i designed a cover for him (click to enlarge):

and then we became one of three finalists and had to make a video presentation for them:

click for video presentation

funny thing cuz the limit was 5 minutes long and my video is like 4:59:80 or sumthing like that

but yes i spent AGES on it, painstakingly drawing bob frame by frame and basically putting the whole video together

and then we won!! yay

all that blood, sweat and tears was worth this.

anyway here is the final design that THEY came up with based off OUR concept (click to enlarge):

it doesnt look like our design, but it was based off technology and i think it looks pretty awesome anyway =D

if you analyse it i think the cover is really really smart.

the tree is the APPLE tree, growing the ipad/itouch icons as its fruit, there's the like.comment.share thing from facebook and the background is like that tv static thing...ingenius.

im so happy! first time winning a competition everr

and my brother won $300 worth of textbooks for uni which he will be redeeming in semester 2, we will both be getting certificates and letters (separately) and i will be getting $100 worth of penguin vouchers! YAY

and by golly, what has been up with the weather lately =[ i hate it...its so garhsgidhssgsdjgsn

B is for Bittersweet.

HEY! DOES ANYONE WANT A $25 PEEP TOE GIFT CARD!?
i got this last time for the dress design competition... its for Peep Toe at castle towers...can only be used on full priced shoes (which are quite expensive) and it doesnt have an expiry date...but im never gonna be using it so if you want it then let me know!

anywhoozies...

*sigh*... the last week of holidays, sweet because school is back, and bitter because...school is back.

i've continued with my disneying, seeing the little mermaid, peter pan and the swan princess annnnd i saw shutter island! ... and no country for old men.

hercules had once again something wrong with it, terrible quality (the sound was off by like 3 seconds and the thing kept skipping every 5 seconds so i kept hearing the same second of the epic part of the opening song like 10 times- so annoying.) so unfortunately i cannot watch that until later haha. pocahontas was in like spanish or something == man that sucks. haha

oh wellz, man i love the little mermaid, i think ariel is the best princess in the whole wide world! and peter pan... it's been FOREVER since i last saw it..all i remembered was the ticking crocodile, and the swan princess...well all i remember was that there were some arrows involved, a frog and a turtle.

gosh it's soooo good to have this wave of reminiscence hit me like this... love it. i neeeeeeeeed to watch hercules tho, that was like my first disney pick and it always has problems ==

i really liked shutter island. it messes with your mind, fully inceptioning you (especially the way he dreams) and towards the end its like massive intensity...i really really loved it cuz its one of those films where at the end it just makes you wanna watch the whole thing again!

such a good film.

no country for old men....
really weird movie. that's all i can say. i suggest you do not watch it. ever.

A is for Apple.

randomly my mum decides to fast on fruit and vegetables alone (except for breakfast-we need the energy) for one week, which was quite difficult seeing as the very first day (monday) of our fasting i had to socialise with friends to celebrate sid's birthday (happy belated sixteenth!)

btw here was my present to sid (i printed it off onto a near-A2 sized poster). Click to enlarge:

so we went lasertag first, and i came out starving and sweaty (picture this: no aircon, running around shooting people, running around away from people shooting you, wearing a large black vest on you; you get sweaty real easily)

and i was like omgsh i'm starving i need some food! so i went and bought some fruit salad (thank gosh they gave me so much watermelon) and it was actually quite filling.
had a watermelon juice after than and that lasted me through the movie (the dilemma-quite funny)

and came back home for so called dinner and wat did we have? salad + corn + tomato + pear...but surprisingly still quite filling...

lately weve been eating a lot of potatoes, like stuffed potatoes for lunch and potatoes and salad for dinner on tuesday and wednesday

thursday i made corn chowder...which didnt turn out that good because i couldnt add creamed corn since that has dairy products in it. i had to make do with soy milk and that didnt turn out good at all.

i guess it tasted alright, but im definitely trying this again next week when we are not fasting. and i really am craving for creamed corn now =[

saturday i was wroking a 9 hour shift so mum said "dw, just have a chicken sandwich" haha but it was really hard to resist a hot chocolate or chai from michel's... =[

movies

recently i joined this thing called adf.ly (<-click!) and its like this way of making money by getting people to click on your links. they shove an ad and you have to wait five seconds then press the skip button to get to the website. i'm just trying it out for the moment, im not sure how much they pay you but i figured, i put tons of links on my blog anyway so yeh.

you will be seeing many adf.ly links from now on.
if you want, try it out cuz i get money for referrals.
and keep clicking so i earn more monies XD

----------

so i couldnt watch hercules, cuz that was in spanish too ==
instead i saw fantastic mr fox, which just like blew my mind cuz the entire thing is stop-motion (it mightve been claymation im not sure) but yeh amazing.
i always loved fantastic mr fox and roald dahl, especially the ending of the book. for those who haven't read it i won't say anything but the film directors didnt like the book ending so they extended it and i was just like man, when is this gonna finish.

but i loved george clooney in this. his voice is just, i dunno its funny how they make all the wild animals so civilised. all the animals are wearing clothes and do everything so civilised but when it comes to eating theyre like savages its hilarious.

and their random bits of humour, like when theyre "glowing" or they have the swirly eyes and seem dazed out. yeh it's pretty randomly funny, and i loved the cast of it! there was like meryl streep, owen wilson, bill murray, the guy that plays dumbledore, i was like WOW DUMBLEDORES IN IT!

---

i also saw salt because my mum bought the dvd some time ago and i never got around to watching it. man, i love these sort of films: fast-paced, keeps you thinking and wonderfully action packed.

i first saw the extended cut version, which has quite a big difference to the theatrical version in terms of the ending. there's also a director's cut but i didnt watch that, i just read wat was different about it on wiki. lolll

i really liked the extended ending. i can't really say much if you havent watched it, but i highly recommend watching the extended version before watching the theatrical one.

---

yet another movie i saw was the soloist. based on the true story of steve lopez, a journalist who is in need of a story and bumps into a homeless man who plays the violin really well even though he only has 2 strings on it.

it turns out that this guy went to julliard, so steve finally gets his story about a man who went to julliard and ended up homeless. obviously along the way he helps him out a bit more and tries to help out all the other homeless people in that area.

i fall in love with true stories so i really liked this. it's sad how sometimes people's talents just go to waste because of their childhood. you think they are perfectly normal but then something in them makes them snap and their life changes forever.

i must say it was really hard to hear wat the both of them were saying, but jamie foxx is such a good actor! my gosh i was like WOW haha.

bottom line is: it's a great movie, watch it =P (maybe with subtitles on)

---

monday, little fockers was watched. it was quite hilarious, but jessica alba seemed too enthusiastic for my liking. i dont think it was HER, just her character, but i was really put off by it.

but yeh the movie had several funny highlights and i can't say much else about it, but yeh pretty good.

---

today i saw julie and julia. once again, based on the true story of a woman, julie powell, who blogs about how she cooks her way through renowned home cook julia child.

i found this movie quite funny, the way the both of them just talk non stop about food, especiall meryl streep; such a good actor! her voice is like hilariously annoying yet so loveable.

it's just amazing how this shows two different stories of how two women took hold of an opportunity and it turned into something magical and completely transformed their lives.

such an awesum movie =]

whatve you been up to lately?

eh.
lets see ive been working, driving, random outing-ing, movieing, booking, stumbling.
i'll elaborate:

-working. last week i earnt like $330ish for working 14 hours on public holidays and 4 hours normal. the rate was like $21.23 per hour for the public holidays. i was like WATTHEHECK when they gave me the envelope hahaha. unfortunately i will never get this much pay for such little work ever again...well not for a very long time at least.

-driving. i think ive done 6+ hours of driving? pretty happy with what i've done: kerb stopping, front on parking, reverse parking, 3 point turns, sharp turning, etc. but all the parking was without cars haha i dont know if that counts, but i'm way too scared to park WITH cars atm.

-movieing. okay so i saw tron legacy 3D (which wasn't THAT good and spotting the 3D bits were like hunting for endangered species at night whilst wearing sunglasses. except the credits. the credits were the most 3D bits of the entire film).

i also saw hotel rwanda which is just...ugh...reminds you of how messed up the world is, and how lucky we all are about wat life we entered the world in. seriously its just like blood diamond without the diamond. and its so true wat they both say. people document these things by writing or filming about these areas and they broadcast it over the news all over the world. people at home watch the tv and think "oh no, thats terrible" and then go back to their daily lives. people honestly dont do anything about this sorta stuff and its sad.

*spoiler alert*
i guess we cant help wats going on with genocides like in rwanda, but we can help with wats going on in blood diamond. even though the film portrayed a happy ending where the journalist gets all the information she needs to bust the van kapp (i think) company out, they still say at the end there are still tons of child soldiers and conflicts over diamonds. they say if you're getting a diamond you have to make sure its conflict-free.

also a lot of people don't realise this but all the electronics which are tiny yet process a lot of information (especially touchscreens like the itouch, ipad, touch phones) contain this really rare mineral (it might be a diamond i'm not sure) in which many africans are killed over. just because of that mineral.

and who is to blame? us. because we fuel their incentive with the money we pay for this sort of stuff. its sooo ridiculous.

anyway, lets turn this around to a happy story, just don't forget about what i just said =P

so i've also been rewatching disney movies cuz my nostalgia is just burning so incessantly. i was about to rewatch peter pan but the version diwan gave me was like....not english. i dont know WAT it was, it didnt sound like french. maybe spanish? no idea. but that was a real pity.

so instead i saw cinderella and man, i cant believe i forgot about all the songs in there. i forgot about "bibbity bobbity boo!" and "so this is love" and the little mice! love gus gus! =]

can't wait for hercules, which i shall watch soon after this =P

-booking. i borrowed "we need to talk about kevin" from the library, and yes. that is the title of the book. it's about this woman, eva, whose son killed 7 of his classmates and 2 teachers two years ago. now she is writing to her husband, whom she is separated from and discovers wat went wrong in her relationship with her son.

right now its pretty boring, i'm only like 55 pages in (out of 468). i guess its the style of writing. you can tell eva is like RELLI educated and that sort of stuff unappeals to me, but i dunno apparently it's good so i'll keep reading and see how it goes from there.

-stumbling. not too many this time (it's an insanely long post):

OCD or CDO?

for the fun of it,

things i am most ocd about:

-rubber bands need to be straight, not twisted, when wrapped aroudn something
-unbent paperclips or bread ties must be as straight as possible
-when i am on a table, the table is my territory and you cannot invade my territory with your ruler, paper or sleeve
-when i put things sideways (like a card into my wallet), the top of the text or image has to be on the left side. which means when i read or look at it i tilt my head to the left. right side=bad.
-dvd's must face the right way in the dvd player or case, even though i know that in the dvd player the disc will spin.
-i can't watch movies or read books out of order; i feel terrible, like i insulted the numbers
-the only excuse for paper being folded is if origami or art is involved. if paper is folded any other time it feels weird and imperfect.
-when i collect things that have dates on them, they must be in chronological order.
-notes (as in money) must be in chronological order

that's it for now, i cant think of any more but they might spring to mind later

stumble your way through the new year

2010's sun is setting, as 2011 dawns upon us.
i think it is safe to say for all of us, that this is going to be very bittersweet.

goodbye to:
-the camps
-the semi care-free attitudes
-the assignments that don't count for much
-pointless geography or australian history
-jerry-maths making us cram and stress the week before common tests (although maths probably was the funnest subject)
-van-loon-english which was boring and dull and unfortunately right before lunch and etc etc and having said that did not help me at all with my english essays and was very hard to concentrate in
-gradesport (bitter or sweet, you decide)
-bludgy pass lessons
-boring food tech theory and unappetising food tech meals

hello to:
-the beginnings of our hsc. the next two years will be gruelling, difficult, strenuous and a load of un-fun.
-assessments
-time flying like crazy
-becoming junior seniors of the school (no one can mistake me for a year 7 kid anymore! YAY)

even tho new year resolutions never work out, here are some things i'd like to achieve in 2011:
-continue exercising (especially after all the late december events and outings)
-get thinner/more toned
-perform
-drive as much as i can
-convert robin to a nail-polish-loving person
-make 4u maths
-earn/save as much money as possible since i'm probably not working in year 12
-lucid dream more
-have a clearer or more narrow mindset of uni/career options

that's it for now.
