nice meeting you again

wow, it feels like i haven't blogged in ages! so, finally got back geo, history and english.

geo (high) 42/50= 84%
history (low) 37.5/50= 75%
english (high; the only wrong assumption i made) 16/20 and 20/20 which makes 36/40= 90%

i guess history isn't that low...but its under 80% and so quite low in comparison to my other ones... and gosh, the history assignment, wow i failed that. but you're probably thinking, hey EVERYONE failed that... but no seriously... i probably did one of the worst in that.. oh golly. my history report mark, as i calculated, is gonna be like 64%. even though average is only 72%, that still sounds like an epic fail mark.

but it's okay, because i aced english!! XD
i can't believe i got 36!! that's crazy. especially because i got 20/20 for my essay, but i think that's just luck because my marker, who i THINK is arblaster, is pretty lenient (i mean she has to be if she gave me a 20) and i got the same marker for short films, and the only problem for short films was i didn't link back to the question. so in the shakespeare essay, i was like "okay i have to link back ALL THE TIME", and some teachers don't like that, so i think i was very very lucky that way. also, in the sense that half my class is marked by van loon and half by whoever marked mine, and van loon marks like crazy so thank gosh i didn't get him.

sorry, long rant there.

hmm, what else has been happening in my life apart from exams? hmmm... hmm... let's face it, i have no life. nothing's happening.

oh OH i'm going creative arts fest and trivia night (yayyy) so come!! because it'll be awesum fun.

oh and happy birthday to: will, ching and alice! =]

genius #12: cake, scrambled eggs, the lot
hmm, one of the things that people take for granted is food, as in... unnatural food. think about it. cakes are SO easy to make right, so easy to consume, so easy to imitate and alter. but how hard do you reckon it was to create the actual recipe for it?! like who was the genius that said "hey im gonna just randomly add this flour with some milk and eggs, oh then i'll bake it, yeh that'll be awesum.

or for that matter, pizza dough? pasta? noodles? scrambled eggs? why did people separate eggs? why the heck did people whisk egg whites? why did they whip cream? gosh seriously. so many mysteries. i am fascinated by them. another thing that strikes me is how did someone discover how to temper chocolate! that's just madness. no one has that amount of spare time on their hands!

reviews

the time traveller's wife: book vs. movie
*sigh*... still the only better movie than its original book is lord of the rings. why is it that movies can never justify the books? is it because there is simply too much in the book to fit into the film? or is it the actors that don't seem to be able to grasp the actual characters? maybe it's the poor directing/editing/crew in general?

or maybe it's just because when we read the book, we imagine it in our own little way, and we imagine it so wonderfully because the book is so descriptive; everything about the style of hair to the spur-of-the-moment thoughts are made so known to us. i felt so disappointed watching the movie. i kept pointing out all the flaws and alterations to myself. the way he time traveled was different in the story, major events were different, major characters have been minimalised, the dialogue was significantly different, and even the last scene was just insanely different to that of the story.

sigh, but i'm a picky person, who is very hard to please. long story short: read the book before the movie ruins it for you. i cried reading the book, no such thing happened in the movie.

iron man 2
again, disappointment has no choice but to overpower me. hmm... this was not as good as the first one. i mean, there were some funny moments, but the plot was quite..weird and i guess very expected. sometimes they led to something that would probably have been seen as a twist in the movie, but to me i reckon it was just a fail attempt to buy some time, so in other words, they were just unnecessary side stories (such as scarlett johansson's character). and then the end fight was just really lame and over-and-done-with way too quickly, but then i guess the other one was kinda like that too.

anyway, i really hope robin hood is good!!

genius #11: balloons
wow. balloons are amazing. no seriously. we take them for granted so much... i mean, theyre INFLATABLE!! that's just crazy. i was watching this thing on tv, i forgot wat the program was called... maybe 'how does it work?' but there are too many of these types of programs to remember the names of them. anyway, it was showing how they make balloons.

so...by memory... wat they do is they first make the mixture for the rubbery material, and then this is collected in this huge vat sort of thing, and then inverted moulds of balloons are dipped in and out of them, and they have to ensure these are super clean because even the tiniest dust particle will just ruin the balloon. also, they have to ensure that the balloon material is no thicker than....some measurement which i forgot. and then this is heated up in an oven or sumthing, inflated and tested, and printed on (whilst inflated). it's much cooler watching it than reading this, especially because i kind of forgot the entire process. but really, its very very interesting the way they do this kind of stuff and i never realised so much work was invested into such a tiny thing that people take for granted.

it's amazing!

moments of melancholy or ecstaticness

oooh half yearlies have come back!

well, so far only maths, science and foodtech, but still. oh and...will you look at that...my high/low estimates were all correct!
maths (high) 73/84= 86.9%!!
science (high) 83%
foodtech (low) 35.5/56= 63% ... oh golly.

but argh seriously winona! wat is wrong with you... 100% in maths and 90% in science wattheheck. you are not human T_T how can you keep topping everything!!

argh.

oh. my 5hour shift on thursday...LOL. that was horrible T_T but its a good thing 3 pieces original chicken lasted me XD
another 5 hours tomoro...1-6pm. oh well. i get free cakes at the end. 'saaaaaaaall good =D

genius #10: sticky tape
okay, so this was from a comment from roger i believe...i might be wrong... in the cbox. and yeh, sticky tape is fascinating! and with that comes like double sided sticky tape, masking tape, duct tape, and that double sided tape that's like foamy or sumthing (i forgot wat its called)- you know, its slightly thicker and its not see-through?

anyway, the most common tape is "pressure sensitive tape", which is just your normal clear sticky tape. according to wiki, "Pressure sensitive adhesive was first developed in 1845 by Dr. Horace Day, a surgeon. Commercial tapes introduced in the early twentieth century."

Another common tape is duct tape! a very very fun tape that we all love to play with.
Interesting fact from wiki: "With a standard width of 1+7⁄8 inches (48 mm), duct tape was originally developed during World War II in 1942 as a water resistant sealing tape for ammunition cases. Permacel, then a division of Johnson & Johnson, used a rubber-based adhesive to help the tape resist water and a fabric backing to add strength. It was also used to repair military equipment quickly, including jeeps, firearms, and aircraft because of these properties."

Masking tape. i love this one, because i feel the power when i can just tear it! =D and it also doesn't stick so hard to something that you have to spend ages trying to peel it off. although i love peeling things.
once again, wiki: "Masking tape was invented in 1925 by 3M employee Richard Drew. Drew observed auto-body workers growing frustrated when they removed butcher paper they had taped to cars they were painting. The strong adhesive on the tape peeled off some of the paint they had just applied. Touching up the damaged areas increased their costs. Drew realized the need for tape with a gentler adhesive."

you learn something new everyday.

genius #9: cling wrap
i'm fascinated by the cling wrap that you get on packages of fruit or watever...it's so sticky! and also sometimes slightly pink, like the ones on the newspaper. but then when you unwrap it, it isn't as sticky! =O magic!
and then the cling wrap that we use at home, it's not as sticky and it makes me sad.

wiki:
History
Plastic wrap's history is built on a lab error and serendipity. Plastic wrap was invented in 1953[citation needed] by a scientist who was trying to make a hard plastic cover for his car; his experiment was completely unsuccessful but he then found the usefulness of plastic wrap which he happened to create instead. The original cling wrap material was Saran, the commercial name for polyvinylidene chloride (PVdCl).

haha, i love it when stuff are made by accident.

happy mothers day

this site tells the history of mother's day and how it came to be about.

Today’s Mother’s Day celebration can be traced back to Anna M. Jarvis, who campaigned for an official Mother’s Day in remembrance of her mother, Anna Reeves Jarvis, a pioneering activist on public health issues.

oh well, it's good to know it didn't just come up randomly by someone who said "ugh i don't want to love my mum so much...i'll just give her my love for one day" cuz that'll be sad if it were like that.

oh and my brother made up this list of superpowers.
pick three (or add your own) and let me know!

i actually do have a life.

genius #8: blu-tack
wiki: Blu-Tack is a versatile, reusable putty-like pressure-sensitive adhesive, commonly used to attach papers to walls or other surfaces. The original version of the product was blue, but many colours are now available.

oh gosh...many colours?!?!? how come i was unaware of this!

anyway so the genius was Austin Carpenter and golly. this thing is so amazing. i'm always seen to be playing, rolling, stretching blu-tack when i'm bored, it's just so fun! and you can make stuff out of it, like...i dunno...but its so cool.

ahahah look at this blu-tack piece of work

CELEBRATE.GOOD.TIMES.COME.ON.

"A German postman has married his obese and asthmatic cat Cecilia, saying he wanted to tie the knot before his elderly furry friend dies."

msn has a lot of weird videos at the bottom...

anywai.
dude.
half yearlies.
are OVER.
and i'm not counting geo because geo isn't a real subject.

okay so, my theory is: for you to have highs, you need lows.
maths= high, counteracted with foodtech= low
english= low, counteracted with science= high
history= low, counteracted with geo= high

see, i planned it all out. no i didn't. i made this up after english, because i felt so horrible about it i told myself that i just HAD to do well in science. i actually said i would do a high in history but the extended response was just horrible. i guess the other bits were okay...but yeh i still think it was weird.

SO, you might ask, what does chloe do on the day before the exam?
does she:
a) stress
b) last minute study
c) cram
d) none of the above

correct answer: d.
haha. my one rule: do not study for something the day before. revise, yes. however that is optional.
and i don't stress to the extent of winona anymore. i used to, but now i'm like as chillaxed as a cucumber.

day before maths exam:
revising science

day before foodtech/english exam:
looking up sound of music lyrics

day before science/history:
playing hearts and reading the time traveller's wife.

yeh, because i am awesum.

my mum bought the sherlock holmes dvd today XD

genius #7: bubble wrap
well, this is pretty self explanatory. i mean, anyone who doesn't LOVE bubble wrap is just, well, crazy.

wiki:
Bubble Wrap was created by two engineers, Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes, in 1957.The term is a brand of Sealed Air Corporation (US) which was founded in 1960 by the two inventors. Sealed Air denotes its product as a brand of "cushioning material".

Amusement
Because Bubble Wrap makes a recognizable "popping" sound when compressed and punctured, it can be used as a source of amusement and to alleviate stress. Acknowledging this alternative use, some websites provide a "virtual bubble wrap" program which displays a sheet of bubble wrap that users may "pop" by clicking on the bubbles.

"Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day" is celebrated on the last Monday of January.

yeah haha i find it so weird that people create virtual bubble wrap, i mean, IT'S NOT THE SAME.

so what do the japs do? they do what they do best: make the most useless inventions ever:

THE MUGEN BUBBLE WRAP
This is part of a Mugen toys line (mugen meaning endless), which includes Peri Peri (stimulating a package being torn open), Beer (cracking open a fresh tin) and Edamame (squeezing soybeans out of their pod). Not to mention the bubble wrap.
So they stimulate bubble wrap, but the bubbles don't actually pop. What it is is just buttons that feel like bubble wrap and these buttons are filled with air. When you press down on then with enough force, the button makes a popping noise and refills with air. This way you will never run out of bubble wrap.
wow. i can't believe that they would think of this stuff. how useless... although im actually kinda...interested in it...hahahaha not the pods one, but the ripping package one hahaha gosh i love that stuff. they should make one for peeling things cuz i love peeling things.

oh and i'm not lying, i got this from reader's digest may 2010 issue and i googled and youtubed the bubble wrap, edamame and peri peri.

Saturday, 1 May 2010

running out of headings.

finally borrowed the time traveler's wife from the library and i read the prologue, even though i told myself i shouldn't read otherwise i would get sucked into it instead of study...buuuuuuuuut oh well. =]
it's good and i can't wait to finish it and watch the movie XD

and speaking of exams...oh gosh, they are slowly catching up to us. two weeks ago i was like yeh thats alright two more weeks. one week ago: yehhhh thats alright i still have two weeks left. today: yeh man two more weeks to study...oh wait...

... this sucks.

nah but i think science will be alright, i've been studying hard...at body balance. hopefully this doesn't go to waste and motion and plate tectonics will be pretti straightforward...hopefully.
maths... *sigh* i hate doing revision sheets, i'm totally not in the moment and when i am in the moment i make silly mistakes anywai. winona, how do you do it =[
food tech, i'm like oh golly do we really need to know this stuff?
history...i think that's alright, but i still haven't learnt anything about the impact of the war so if we have an extended response on that... =S
uhhh... english... haha. i'm gonna try and not fail like i did with the short films essay... but you never know... i'm not memorising this essay word for word so i dunno how good it'll be.
and screw geo, no one cares about geo, that's why it got lonerised to the second "week" of our exams, all by itself in the lonely corner.

genius #6: the zipper

seriously when have you NOT zipped something up without going "how does it WORK"?!
like how do the teeth actually close together and then unclose just by pulling something up and down it! i seriously just think that it's fascinating and magical! i mean i know there's like no crazy stuff going on in there like some mini elf just clipping them together, but its just genius that you can't actually interlock the teeth by yourself. you need that zipper thing! that's crazy. it's so simple, the two sides just interlock, but WHY can't we do it ourselves! it's so bizarre and confuzzles me all the time.

Gideon Sundbäck was the Swedish genius behind it back in approximately 1906.

Don't you just wish you could go back in time and invent something? I mean look around you, i think we've exhausted all possibilities. sure there's gonna be new stuff like iphones or 3d televisions but i mean something that will just change everyone's life. the iphones just another version of the phone, and the 3d television is just another version of the television. but i mean something that has like no relation to anything that's invented and something that will just make everyone go crazy! i mean yeh, there's talk about hovercars even though the they tried making one and it hovered like a metre or so above the ground. or in movies where they have teleporters, but seriously that's just another excuse to be obese.

i would continue, but it's too much of a rant already.

by the way, welfare day was awesum.
